V for Vendetta

Atrios brought up a point I had forgotten, that it is surprising that V for Vendetta is being made in today's climate. Atrios goes into smacking down Denby about the some of the Aids talk from the comic.

Well as Moore has stated repeatedly during interviews, when he wrote the comic, the people in power in England were considering wiping out homosexuality as a -concept-. Meaning all homosexuals would be dead, all those who knew and liked homosexuals would be dead, etc etc etc. That is one of the reasons that V comes across as hero even though he is the most monsterious part of the entire series.
