This is a long and well thought out article about the roots of conservative power in the US.
And I will be honest, a lot of what he talked about, especially when it comes to immediate post-world war II America, was new information to me, and it helped clarify why we as liberal progressives are facing the problems we are.
It made me realize that Billmon was right in calling them Limbic system voters. ( No link since he left.) and he was right, they do vote with their limbic system, where we are wrong is assuming it was only in 2000 and 2004 that they were voting that way. As the article points out, the conservatives have always been reaching to the far back brain to get what they want. Always reaching for Us vs Them. What is defined as Us vs Them changes, (It used to be Us white people Vs all deem brown people, now its more Us
Christians vs all those brown infidels), but the same basic message stays the same.
Another interesting point I read today is that Welfare was insanely popular in the 40s and 50s... until it was forced to cover everyone. And only then were the conservatives able to start to dismantle it.
