Escapist has the story of a dev in EVE online that was caught cheating.
What happened is one of the Devs joined a player alliance on his personal character and through his dev character he gave his alliance some super rare items that could be cloned and sold for a lot of money to other players. CCP says they found out about it in June and quietly took care of it. Unlike every other instance of when it has occurred before, they only 'disciplined' the dev.
Which is causing a royal shitstorm in the eve community. The Alliance that the Dev was helping out is one of the most hated in the game and has always been dogged by rumors of cheating and devs helping them. Which apparently are true. What makes this even more interesting is the guy who found it out is a hacker who hacker the BoB forums and found the information there.
I think that a lot of the people in the outside world don't understand what just happened. The dev was giving weapons, items and ships to BoB that made them stronger and harder to kill. Those weapons could also be sold for a huge profit to other players. It made a huge difference in the war effort between BoB and other groups.
And I agree with people, the Dev should be fired over this. He was seriously breaking the rules to help his friends. Which breaks the game. That means now if one group is doing better than they should, cries of GM help won't be immedaitely discounted, because they could be true. What's to stop the guy from doing it again?
I'm glad my eve sub is over this month.
