The only real remarkable thing about him was that the CIA tried to overthrow him and failed. Hugo then became an even bigger opponent of the Bush Administration. Which I guess is all it takes to be allowed admission into the Far Left Love Orgy. Because the man is just the Bush of south america, as his third term has proved time and time again.
Now before I go on, when he was first elected on second term, He did a lot of good things that I commend him for, but that only gets you so far. In his third term he has acted more and more like a power hungry dictator.
And guess what?
He went even further than Bush.
Convening in a downtown plaza in a session that resembled a political rally, lawmakers unanimously gave Chavez sweeping powers to legislate by decree and impose his radical vision of a more egalitarian socialist state.
"Long live the sovereign people! Long live President Hugo Chavez! Long live socialism!" said National Assembly President Cilia Flores as she proclaimed the "enabling law" approved by a show of hands. "Fatherland, socialism or death! We will prevail!"
The law gives Chavez, who is beginning a fresh six-year term, more power than he has ever had in eight years as president, and he plans to use it over the next 18 months to transform broad areas of public life, from the economy and the oil industry in particular, to "social matters" and the very structure of the state.
Bush has to go behind our backs to accomplish these kind of things. Chavez does in public.
So yeah, next time somebody tries to tell you how wonderful Chavez is, point them here.
And if they don't understand the cartoon, hit them with a copy of Animal Farm.
