On the first hand...

this is horrible. There is no reason someone should die of tooth decay in this day and age.

If his mother hadn't been focused on getting a dentist for his brother, who had six rotted teeth.

On the other hand, There is no reason a child should have tooth decay that terrible at such a young age. I'm not an expect on toothcare, but six rotten teeth is signs of larger problems than the inability to get to a dentist.

It is sad the child died, but I am wondering just how much diet/lack of brushing led to the tooth decay.
